Credible Group-Stability in General Multi-Partner Matching Problems∗

چکیده
Pairwise-stable matching mechanisms are practically used and perform very well in the real world two-sided matching markets (e.g., the US hospital-intern market, and the British hospital-intern markets: see Roth 1984 and 1991, respectively). It is known, however, that in a twosided many-to-many matching market (the British market), pairwisestability is not logically related with the (weak) core unlike in a oneto-many matching market (the US market) [see Blair (1988) and Roth and Sotomayor (1990)]. In this paper, we use a graph representation of matching problems, and we define strong group-stability, a matchingvariation of a solution concept in the network literature (Jackson and van den Nouweland, 2002). Although strong group-stability is equivalent to pairwise-stability in a one-to-many matching market, unfortunately, the solution concept is too strong for many-to-many matching markets. Therefore, we proceed to define executable coalitional deviations to discuss the credibility of coalitional deviations, and define credibly group-stable matchings. We prove that credible group-stability is equivalent to pairwise-stability in a wide class of matching problems. We also prove the equivalence between the set of pairwise-stable matchings and the set of matchings resulting from coalition-proof Nash equilibria in an appropriately defined strategic form game. ∗Preliminary. Comments from Al Roth and conversations with Eiichi Miyagawa in the early stage of this research were very useful. †Department of Economics, Boston College, 140 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, MA 02467, USA. Credible group stability in many-to-many matching problems
It is known that in two-sided many-to-many matching problems, pairwisestable matchings may not be immune to group deviations, unlike in many-to-one matching problems (Blair 1988). In this paper, we show that pairwise stability is equivalent to credible group stability when one side has responsive preferences and the other side has categorywise-responsive preferences. A credibly group-stable mat...
متن کاملCredible Stability in the Roommate Problem
In the roommate problem, it is known that a stable matching may not exist. In this paper, we propose a new deviation-proof concept, called credible stability, and show that the concept resolves the problem. At a credibly stable matching, any coalition which deviates from the matching is punishable; a deviating coalition is punishable if there exists a further deviation that makes some agent in ...
متن کاملChanging in the Reaction Time Causes the Confidence Matching in Group Decision Making
Introduction: Others’ decision could constantly affect our decisions. There are numerous studies which revealed this effect properly. The social influence could affect most of the decision parameters, especially the confidence. Recently, an interesting study showed that participants tend to match their confidence to each other while they preserve their decision accuracy in a group decision mak...

The research paper emphasizes that the Stable Matching problems are the same as the problems of stable configurations of Multi–stage Interconnection Networks (MIN). We have discusses the Stability Problems of Existing Regular Omega Multi-stage Interconnection Network (OMIN) and Proposed 3-Disjoint Paths Omega Multi-stage Interconnection Network (3DON) using the approaches and solutions provided...
